Stats for Psychology (“we,” “us”) is an educational website at statsforpsychology.com. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. The short version: you can read everything on the site without an account, we don't run advertising or third-party tracking, and we don't sell personal information.
What We Collect
- When you browse. Like most websites, our servers record basic request information: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, the referring page and the time. We use it to run the site, keep it secure and fix problems.
- Cookies. We use a small number of cookies that the site needs to work, such as a session cookie and a security token that protects forms. We don't use advertising, analytics or social-media tracking cookies.
- When you email us. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and use it to reply.
- Accounts. Public sign-up isn't open. Accounts that exist store a first and last name, an email address, a securely hashed password (never the password itself), and sign-in records: when and from which IP address the account last signed in, and how many times.
How We Use It
To operate and secure the site, to respond to messages, to send account emails such as password resets, and to understand and fix errors. We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who Processes It for Us
We use a few service providers to run the site. Each receives only what it needs to provide its service:
- Heroku (Salesforce) hosts the site and its database and handles server logs.
- Amazon Web Services stores files the site uses.
- SendGrid (Twilio) delivers the site's emails, such as password resets.
These providers may process data in the United States. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users.
How Long We Keep It
Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. Account information is kept while the account exists and deleted when the account is deleted. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle the conversation.
Your Choices and Rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@statsforpsychology.com. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act; we'll honor requests made under them. Account holders can also update or delete their account from the account page.
Security
The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections, and passwords are stored hashed. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
Children
The site is meant for students, researchers and professionals, and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
If we change how we handle information, for example when accounts or paid features open, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
